About us
Why we developed Baby, Me & NRT
Most pregnant women want to stop smoking but can find it hard. Over one in ten women still smoke throughout their pregnancy. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is available on the NHS for pregnant women who struggle to stop smoking using other methods, but most do not use enough of it for long enough. By introducing a tailored support programme, which improves use of NRT, we hope to give pregnant women the best chance of quitting.
The Baby, Me & NRTsupport programme involves:
- Face to face and telephone support with a specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner.
- Text messages offering encouragement, advice and tips.
- An illustrated booklet on how to get the most out of NRT.
- This website, which has all the information you need in one place.
Baby, Me & NRT research programme
We strive to make sure that Baby, Me & NRT provides the best support possible for you. We are evaluating Baby, Me & NRT as part of a large NHS research project, the N-READY Programme. Ultimately, we want you to find Baby, Me & NRT helpful and for this to help you, and other women like you, stop smoking for good.
The N-READY research programme is a collaboration with researchers from the University of Nottingham, University of East Anglia, University of York, University of Stirling, St George’s University of London, University College London, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris), and colleagues at Nottingham CityCare Partnership. It is hosted by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The programme runs until April 2023 and is funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).
